The small, cozy Svetlogorsk in the Kaliningrad region invariably attracts tourists with its picturesque nature, mild climate, charming quiet old streets and beautiful architecture. The resort, located on the very shore of the Baltic Sea, is famous for its long sandy beach, wonderful pine forest, clean air and healing peat mud. In 2020, Svetlogorsk became the first - and so far the only! - city in Russia that is included in the international Cittaslow association.

Cittaslow (literally "slow city") is an international movement founded in Italy in 1999. The main principles of the movement are slowing down the daily urban rhythm to improve the quality of life, enjoying the uniqueness of each city, creating a comfortable environment, resisting monotony and averaging.

What is Cittaslow?

Today, there are about 240 "slow cities" around the world. Cities that are part of the association support local cuisine, create new green and pedestrian areas, encourage the use of "clean" technologies and the creation of handmade goods. In "slow cities" there is a very special atmosphere of hospitality and good neighborliness, and one of the main principles is preserving authenticity.

The Cittaslow symbol is a cute snail, which, as we know, hurries slowly and still manages to do everything that is really important. So “slow cities” try to live without rushing, enjoying every moment.

Currently the leaders of the movement:

  • Italy - 72 cities
  • Poland - 13 cities
  • Germany and Korea - 11 cities
  • Turkey - 9 cities

Svetlogorsk as a “slow city”

Participation in the Cittaslow movement assumes that the city adheres to and will continue to develop in accordance with the following principles:

  • Preservation of historical heritage
  • Reduction of energy consumption
  • Promotion of environmental technologies
  • Increase in green spaces and recreation areas
  • Cleanliness of the city
  • Priority of public and other environmentally friendly transport
  • Reduction in the amount of waste and its effective disposal
  • Increase in the number of pedestrian zones
  • Support for local producers
  • Development of public infrastructure comfortable for people of all ages, including those with disabilities
  • Preservation and development of local customs and traditions

The main goal of Cittaslow is to improving the quality of life of local residents, but also tourists, especially from megacities, are very interested in such cities. It is pleasant that the charming Russian Svetlogorsk has taken a worthy place among the members of the association. We are waiting for everyone who wants to take a break from the hustle and bustle, plunge into the enchanting cozy atmosphere of the "slow city", where you can slowly and tastefully enjoy every moment.

Give yourself an incredible combination of 3 healing components for the health of the soul and body: the sanatorium AZIMUT Health Yantar + the "slow city" Svetlogorsk + the Baltic Sea.
