Health baths are an integral part of classic spa treatment. There are more than a hundred varieties of health baths, they differ in composition, temperature, degree of immersion, etc.
Depending on the nature and stage of the disease, the balneological method is used independently or as part of complex therapy. A course of therapeutic baths is also indicated in the absence of serious ailments - a pleasant procedure has a beneficial effect on the emotional state, helps to overcome stress and strengthen the immune system.
Mineral baths
Natural or artificially mineralized water is used for this type of bath. The scope of application of baths is determined by their chemical composition:
- sulfide baths have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, are used to treat joint and skin diseases;
- sulfate baths help with diseases of the liver, gall bladder and digestive system;
- chloride baths are good for the respiratory tract, improve the condition of the skin;
- carbonate baths help improve metabolism and blood circulation, are effective in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases;
- radon baths reduce pain in diseases of the musculoskeletal system, have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Resorts located near thermal springs offer baths with natural mineral water, which contains trace elements in high concentrations. The hallmark of the Kislovodsk, Zheleznovodsk and Essentuki health resorts are narzan baths with a rich mineral composition.
Gas baths
To carry out the procedure, water is saturated with gas under pressure using special installations (physical method) or the necessary ingredients are added directly to the bath (chemical method). Gas bubbles, settling on the skin, act on the principle of micro-massage.
Types and purpose of gas baths:
- carbon dioxide - stimulate blood circulation and gas exchange in tissues, have a beneficial effect on kidney function;
- oxygen - help to accelerate metabolism, improve the condition of the cardiovascular system;
- nitrogen - have an analgesic and calming effect, are used in the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems;
- pearl - relax muscles, relieve tension, increase skin elasticity.
Additional components can be used when preparing gas baths. Pearl-pine and oxygen-sodium baths are highly effective.

Salt baths
The most popular are salt baths with sea water, saturated with magnesium, calcium, potassium, iodine, bromine and other valuable components. Primorsky health resorts certainly include this useful and pleasant procedure in their treatment and SPA programs.
In sanatoriums located far from the sea, baths are prepared using dry sea or table salt, which is dissolved in water and often enriched with natural extracts and essential oils. Salt baths improve skin condition, relieve joint pain, increase vascular tone, and help remove toxins from the body. The procedure is prescribed for diseases of the respiratory tract, cardiovascular and nervous systems.
Mud baths
The procedures are carried out with sea, peat or lake mud (sapropel). The principle of action is based on a combination of thermal exposure and the rich mineral composition of natural raw materials. To prepare the bath, the mud is heated to a temperature of about 37-40°, after which it is diluted in warm water.
Mud baths have an analgesic effect, improve blood circulation, and have a good effect on the skin. The procedure is prescribed for metabolic disorders, diseases of the musculoskeletal system, and the female reproductive system.
In the AZIMUT Health and RZhD-Health sanatoriums, therapeutic baths are successfully used both independently and as part of complex programs. In addition to the listed procedures, you can also undergo a course of treatment with the use of using the miraculous antler baths or enjoy the legendary "Cleopatra's bath".
